Minimizing emissions is extremely important. Yes, the planet will go through its cyclic patterns of changing climate. It also has natural sources of emissions.  It is difficult to ignore the environmental impact of humankind however.  We want is a clean planet with less environmental and air pollution, as well as the preservation of natural resources. Since this is the only planet we’ve got right now, it’s our responsibility to do what we can to lower our ecological footprint. Our children and our children’s children will be better off for it.

6 Simple Ways to Lower Emissions

To help you minimize your impact, we’ve come up with six simple ways to lower emissions:

  1. Choose an alternative source of transportation: Ride the bus or take the train. Carpool with co-workers or join a ride-share. Hope on your bike, walk or come up with some other way to get where you need to go. Even if you only do this once a week or once a day, it’s a start. Ditching your vehicle every now and again lowers harmful emissions, plain and simple.
  2. Use a proven, liquid fuel catalyst: When you do need to drive, we recommend you use a proven, liquid fuel catalyst like Biofriendly Corporation’s Green Plus.  Proven to reduce emissions, this fuel catalyst has a bonus of improving engine power and increasing fuel efficiency.
  3. Adjust your eating habits to include fewer meat-centric meals: Eating less meat will lower your carbon footprint. Of course, switching to a vegetarian or vegan diet will have an even greater impact. According to shrinkthatfootprint.com, studies show food system emissions could be responsible for up to 25 percent of all human emissions. It also illustrates the difference between five different types of diets including meat lovers, average, no meat, vegetarian and vegan. Want to lower your carbon footprint? Take a look at your daily diet. Plant a garden. Grow some of your own vegetables and herbs.
  4. Reduce overall consumption: This one is really a no-brainer. Reducing your overall consumption lowers the emissions you are responsible for generating. If we buy and consume less, then less items will be manufactured. The simplest way to do this is switch to reusable materials instead of one-use items. Buy one you can use over and over again instead of having to buy the same item multiple times.
  5. Use a programmable thermostat: Summer has officially arrived here in Southern California and we’ve got the temperatures to prove it. By setting your thermostat to 78 degrees Fahrenheit during the day, you can cut your energy use. You’ll also save money and lower emissions.
  6. Opt for renewable energy: Minimize your dependence on fossil fuels.  Add solar panels to your home. Check out wind turbine options. Even hydro-electric could be a more eco-friendly way to power your home and office. Look for renewable energy that won’t deplete existing resources.

Common Sources of Personal Emissions

Personal emissions come from a variety of sources. One of the main sources is the combustion of fossil fuels. If you can reduce your dependence on fossil fuels, you’ll be far better off. Transportation is also a major contributor. Just think about it. With around 7.5 billion people currently on the planet, and numbers expected to rise to 9.6 billion by 2050, how we choose to get around makes a difference. Deforestation has an impact, as does one’s eating habits. The more we manufacture and build, the more emissions we generate. Getting into a reduce, reuse, recycle frame of mind would do wonders.

Almost every aspect of our lives could be overhauled, even if just a little, to lower our impact on the environment. Doing these six steps gives you a place to start. You can then move on from there.
