Valentine’s Day With An Organic Flair

Valentine’s Day is all about spending time with the ones you love. Whether you are sharing the evening with a special someone, or you have decided to spend the day with friends, or you are looking to pamper yourself a bit…one of the best ways you can do that is with an organic flair.

Almost every aspect of your Valentine’s Day activities can be done by using organic materials, foods and other items. Take a look at a few examples of how you can incorporate organic ideas to make your day a little greener and a little more environmentally-friendly:

1. Plan an organic meal. Instead of going out and having to wade your way through all the other people who have decided to eat out on Valentine’s Day, make your meal a little more personalized by planning an organic meal at home. If it is just you and your special someone, you can plan your meal according to what the two of you like. If you are having a get-together with friends, maybe an organic pot-luck is in order.

Take a look at some of these organic Valentine’s recipes, or perhaps these mouth-watering recipes, and then visit your local Farmer’s Market, or the organic section of your grocery store, to get your organic ingredients. Of course, if you have a garden of your own, some of the ingredients for your meal can be gotten directly from your own garden.

Side note: Remember that much of your meal will lie in the presentation, so cutting food in the shape of hearts, arranging it that way on a plate, or using pink/red fruits and vegetables, can make the meal all that more enjoyable.

2. If you are set on giving flowers, then go organic. Since I live in California, I’d probably opt for these California Organic Flowers. An even better option to a bouquet of roses, however, would be to give a rose bush or plant that can be planted after Valentine’s Day.

3. Since chocolates are often associated with Valentine’s Day, fair-trade and/or organic chocolates are a smart option for all you chocolate lovers out there.

All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.” – Charles M. Schulz

4. Should you be looking to have a little more intimate setting, you can buy a few organic spa items to help you set the mood, or help you relax. For those who want to go out for a couple’s massage, take in a little yoga, or plan a relaxing spa weekend, can check out spa destinations near you by doing a search for “organic” on spafinder.com.

If you do not want to spend the money, but still want to enjoy a few organic spa-like treatments, check out these DIY organic spa treatments that can be done using food and other items you might have lying around the house.

5. One of the most simple, but romantic, things to do on Valentine’s Day is to spend some time outdoors. Weather permitting, you could pack a picnic lunch and spend sometime soaking in nature’s beauty, indulging in an organic meal, talking, enjoying each other’s company and more. If you’d rather go for a walk at night, you could bundle up, and spend some time together looking at the moon and stars.

Keep love in your heart. A life without it is like a sunless garden when the flowers are dead.” – Oscar Wilde

6. Do no forget to use organic products when you are getting ready to go out on your Valentine’s Day date, or Valentine’s night-in. If you do not have any, it is easy to acquire a few, because when you pop over to Whole Foods to pick up some of your planned ingredients, you can now also grab some organic beauty products.

There are many more ideas, of course, but I hope I was able to either give you some ideas to make your Valentine’s Day a little more organic, or get your creative juices flowing so that you can come up with some of your own organic ideas. Either way – here’s wishing you a happy, biofriendly Valentine’s Day!
