Wasp Up?

Today’s Image of the Day is this up close and personal photo of a wasp. Not an insect most people like to have hanging around, but this close-up shot is quite a stunner! I would, however, think twice about messing with this little guy or any of his friends. I mean just take a look at that skull-like yellow patch on its face. Quite foreboding.

Fortunately wasps, like bees, are pollinators. Wasps can also be quite beneficial to have around certain crops as they sort of act as a natural pest control. So, it might not be too bad to have him hanging around the garden.
