Similar to coppicing, the Daisugi technique for growing trees began in Japan during the Muromachi period around the 14th century. The Sugi trees are pruned similar to a Bonsai trees and the wood is uniformly cut, straight and without knots. Perfect for construction and producing wood without cutting down trees for 700 years!
