Some of My Favorite Ways to Green St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick's Day clover green

Every year St. Patrick’s Day gets me thinking about all of the ways in we can celebrate this wonderfully-green day. You will of course want to wear green so as not to get pinched…now don’t say I didn’t warn you. Finding a four-leaf clover is another fun way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day as who couldn’t use a little luck o’ the Irish. People of Irish descent generally have traditions that have been handed down from family to family on how they celebrate this day and of course, people who are not Irish are welcome to celebrate as well.

Irish BlessingIf you are looking for some green ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, here are some of my favorites:

  • Smile. The Irish are a very happy people and a big smile can go a long way to spreading joy and happiness.
  • Decorate with nature. Buy clover and other potted plants that you can then add to your garden after your party. Bring in the green from outdoors or, better yet, take your party outside and enjoy the natural green that nature provides.
  • Don’t forget you can always bring the luck o’ the Irish to your garden as well, regardless of what you do inside your home.
  • If you are having a party, opt for recycled paper, reusable materials or re-purpose items you already have. Get creative – there are so many cool ideas to be had.
  • Cook organically; organic meat, organic potatoes, organic wine, etc. If you cannot find organic, go local. Be sure to keep leftovers or compost any unusable waste.
  • If you are looking for a few refreshing cocktails, here is a cucumber & green tea mojito as well as a frozen avocado margarita. Here are few more green drinks for St. Patrick’s Day.
  • Should your celebrations have you traveling, try to use public transportation, walk, ride your bike or carpool as much as you can.
  • To wrap up your day, you can try this green tea cookie recipe. Make them in the shape of shamrocks and they’ll be even better!

I know these are simple ideas, but you don’t have to be extravagant to go green for St. Patrick’s Day. In actuality, isn’t it better to be just the opposite. Minimize the materials you use while maximizing your enjoyment.
