Solar Energy for your home…the time is now

When it comes to Solar Energy, there is no time like the present.  With all the savings and tax credits available in California (and at the Federal level) for alternative and solar energy, why would anyone in their right mind want to delay getting their home fit with solar panels?

Besides, did you know that residential solar systems are eligible for a 30% Federal Investment Tax Credit?  Let’s say you get set up with a solar water heater, as long as at least half of the energy on the “qualifying property” comes from the sun, you can get a tax credit for 30% of the cost of your solar water heater.  Now, you can only claim the solar water heating portion, not the entire water heating for your household.  But 30% of cost is pretty decent.  On top of that, some states offer rebates such as $1500 for a residential solar water heater.

Then if you get photovoltaic panels for your house and the system provides electricity for the residence, you can get a tax credit for 30% of cost as well.  (Yes, a stipulation is that it must provide electricity for the residence…of course!)  Some of these credits/rebates can be gotten in cash.

So, what are the REAL advantages to getting solar energy for your home?  Well, a properly fitted and installed solar energy system, like the ones installed by Moore Solar can:

  • reduce or even eliminate your electric bill,
  • increase the value of your property (without necessarily increasing your property taxes),
  • give you cash rebates and/or tax credits (in some cases covering up to 80% of your system),
  • offer a reliable, long-lasting solution to your energy needs.  (Many solar companies install solar panels that carry a 25-year manufacturer’s warranty…pretty good),
  • help the environment.  When you generate electricity from solar power you are helping to cut down the need for electricity generated from coal, gas or nuclear sources.  Anything that helps the environment, while providing you and your family with the energy your home needs, is a good thing.

For more information on Federal incentives, property tax exemptions or state, local and utility rebates in your area, visit www.dsireusa.org (DSIRE is a project funded by the U.S. Department of Energy)  Also, please remember you will need to reserve your rebate, so if you haven’t done so, you’ll want to ensure you get that done BEFORE your solar system construction begins.
