Doing Biofriendly Good Deeds – 9/11 Day of Service

Sometimes life can get a little overwhelming. You can get so sucked into your work or personal issues that you don’t always see past them in order to lend a hand or help someone else in need. It’s probably happened to everyone at some point in their life, so don’t feel bad if you haven’t helped as much as you would have liked. This year’s 9/11 National Day of Service is a good opportunity to take some time and do a few biofriendly good deeds.

You don’t need to change the world in one day and to be honest, you don’t even need a special day to come along before you can start doing biofriendly good deeds. But when one does come along, it is a simple way to get out there and contribute.

Being good is commendable, but only when it is combined with doing good is it useful.” – Unknown Author

President Obama declared 9/11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. One of the greatest ways to remember loved ones we have lost is to do something that honors their memory. Do something that honors their sacrifice. Figure out a way to contribute to improving life and the world around you, no matter how big or small.

As Anne Frank said, “How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”

If you aren’t sure what you can or want to do, take a look at what the National Sierra Club has planned with their “Serve Outdoors” initiative:

Additionally, please keep this in mind as the anniversary of 9/11 approaches:

It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do little – do what you can.” – Sydney Smith

You owe it to yourself to tap into your spirit of volunteerism. Take a look at this inspirational video from the National 9/11 Memorial, then work out what biofriendly good deeds you are going to do this 9/11 Day of Service. I’d love to hear what contributions you have planned and what inspired you to contribute.

Simply inspirational! Great message and thank you for spreading the word about the National Day of Service. We will definitely be getting out there to help in our community – not only on Saturday but throughout the year in our scouting organizations and through our church.

Lead by doing, not just talking about it! 🙂

I want to put these horrible memories out of my head but not without recognizing the amazing people who dealt with this unthinkable disaster first hand.
