Amazon goes green in many ways

When I first saw an article about Amazon going green by selling Eco-Goods, I thought that was great. Then I kept reading to find they were also offering “Frustration-Free Packaging”. Now that peaked my interest! And as they promote on their site, “Finally: no wrap rage”.
Let’s face it, if you have ever ordered well…pretty much anything, you know how frustrating it can be to get into the packaging. Why is it a product needs to be packaged using so much plastic and in such a way that you almost have to have special electric super-strong scissors to get into them? (Which are available on Amazon too by the way.) Well, it doesn’t need to be that way.
In addition to finding green products on Amazon, such as reusable grocery totes, eco-friendly baby products, Seventh Generation household items and much more, you can now get green packaging.
Amazon describes their new packaging as:
“Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging, a multi-year initiative designed to alleviate ‘wrap rage,’ features recyclable boxes that are easy to open and free of excess materials such as hard plastic clamshell cases, plastic bindings, and wire ties. The product itself is exactly the same – we’ve just streamlined the packaging.”
Now before you get too excited, per the article I read, while Amazon does offer a very wide variety of products, only four makers so far have actually provided Amazon with frustration-free packaging. These companies are Fisher-Price, Mattel, Microsoft and Transcend Information.
All I can say is at least it’s a start. I for one would be very happy to have less plastic wasted and be able to access the products I purchase a lot easier….especially things like my kids’ toys! And just like Andy Sernovitz’s blog title states, “Damn! I wish I’d Thought of That.”
