Earth Day 2026: 7 Actions You Can Take to Show Your Support

Earth Day 2026 - "Our Power, Our Planet"

As you are probably well aware, Earth Day takes place on April 22nd each and every year. The theme for Earth Day 2026 is “Our Power, Our Planet™” and is focused around not only the real world transition to renewable energy and other clean technologies, but on community and grassroots events, education and advocacy to help raise awareness as to the environmental challenges we face and actions we can take to protect the planet and strengthen the green economy.

What’s different this year is activities and events are taking place on Saturday, April 18th and will continue through Wednesday, April 22nd.

This means you can get started on your Earth Day plans right away! If you are looking for a little inspiration, consider one or more of these seven actions you can take you show your support of Earth Day 2026 and of the planet overall:

1. Attend an Earth Day Event

As of this writing, there are over 9,000 Earth Day events currently planned in places all over the world. All you need to do is zoom in on the map and find out what activities are in your area. Then, decide which event you want to attend and show up.

2. Create Your Own Event

Another option is to create your own Earth Day event. Whatever you decide to do to bring awareness to Earth Day and its purposes/goals, you can do and if you register it on EarthDay.org, others can attend as well.

Plan a park cleanup. Coordinate with your local community officials to have a tree planting event. Start a community garden. Arrange a DIY workshop to teach others how to make new items from recycled materials. Hold a seminar to educate people on the option of shared renewables for those who can’t afford to buy solar or install individual clean technologies.

3. Tell Your elected representatives to back renewable energy

Reaching out to your elected representatives and telling them to back renewable energy is another action you can take to make a difference this Earth Day. Politicians need to hear from their constituents about the issues important to them. So, call their office, write a letter, send an email, submit public comments or attend a meeting. Do what you can to make your voice heard.

4. volunteer

When you step up to volunteer your time, you are making a profound statement as to what is important to you. This Earth Day, volunteer for an organization or group you feel is making a real difference. You can volunteer with The National Park Service, Habitat for Humanity or any other organization offering sustainable, eco-friendly solutions and/or supporting environmental causes.

5. Plan a Movie Night

While planning a movie night may not seem like a good way to show your support of Earth Day 2026, your choice of movie(s) could help educate or enlighten you and your guests as to the environmental challenges we face. You could also show a movie highlighting the benefits of nature and protecting the environment.

Some possible options include, but are not limited to:

  • The Lorax
  • Wall-E
  • Moana
  • March of the Penguins
  • The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind
  • Brave Blue World
  • David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet
  • The Biggest Little Farm
  • Avatar

6. get outdoors and reconnect with nature

One of the most important steps you can take, if you’re interested in protecting and preserving the planet, is to actually get outdoors and reconnect with nature. Look at the natural beauty all around you. Gather inspiration from the trees, plants, sun and animals. Take a walk. Go on a hike with friends or family. Spend some time forest bathing.

The key is to re-immerse yourselves in the outdoors, so you know what you are fighting to protect. Use of finite resources, rather than renewable resources, can have a definite impact on the world in which you live. Figuring out how to make products using sustainable materials, and power machines using renewable energy, could make all the difference.

7. switch to clean energy

Last, but definitely not least, is switching to clean energy. Earth Day 2026 is the perfect time to figure out how you, too, can opt for more sustainable energy sources. Remember, it’s “Our Power, Our Planet™.” Renewable, clean energy is a viable option for the benefit of both you and the environment around you. See what options may be best for you and make the switch.

Spread the Word About Earth Day

Once you’ve decided what actions you are going to take this Earth Day, and beyond, be sure to spread the word. Educate and enlighten others. Talk up the benefits and the challenges. The planet belongs to us all which means its our responsibility to help preserve it for generations to come.
