Macro Mushroom

This mushroom earns today’s Biofriendly Image of the Day. The macro photography used to capture this image did a great job of highlighting the detail and beauty of this fungi found on the forest floor.

You may not realize it, but mushrooms can be extremely beneficial. Not only are a number of mushrooms perfect for human consumption, but mushrooms and other fungi are also used in certain medicines. Mushrooms benefit wildlife too as they help recycle fallen leaves and other plant litter, as well as provide shelter and food for insects and small animals. In addition, a recent scientific paper stated mushrooms could help save the world’s honeybees.
