A simple tip to save money on gasoline during the holidays

gasoline and fuel economy

Now you probably think I’m going to tell you about tuning up your engine, putting a fuel additive in your vehicle, taking public transportation or any number of great ideas (that will in fact save you money on gasoline), but I’m not.  The tip I have is easier than any of those ideas.

Go online before you leave for your holiday vacation and find the listings for gas prices in your area, along your route and at your destination.  A great website for such listings in Southern California is the KTLA website.  It is one of the simplest sites I have found for current gasoline prices and is constantly being updated by gasbuddy.com.

Just log on, put in your city, state or zip code and it gives you a variety of gas stations and areas to choose from.  You can zoom in on a particular price and see what gas station it is, where it is located, when someone spotted the price being listed, etc.  It’s so simple, it’s hard to believe more people don’t know about it and use it.

For example, the other day I told my mom about the great gas prices near me and told her that if she was coming out my way, she should take advantage and fill up.  She told me she didn’t even have enough gas to get out by me.  So I told her to go onto KTLA.com and check out gas prices in her area.  She did and it saved her at least $0.10-$0.15/gallon, just by knowing where to go.

So, before you go fill up the tank for your holiday trip, take the time to log on, find out where the best gas prices are near you and go there to fill up.  Taking a few extra minutes to do that could help you save quite a bit on the gasoline you need for your holiday.
