Green Alternatives To Getting Around Town Without Driving Your Own Vehicle

If you want a greener way of getting around your town, you have more choice than ever these days. Some ways of being a greener wanderer are obvious, but some may not be so obvious to you. We’ll give you some ideas about how you can get around town with a smaller carbon footprint.

You might want to try some of these because they making your travels a bit more adventurous too.

Skates

Believe it or not, people do still use roller skates and they are a great way to get around town quickly. They have the added bonus of being able to go where cars and motorcycles can’t. Plus, you will probably be surprised at just how much fun it is to travel on wheels. You also get the added bonus of exercise, which will keep you healthy.

Bicycles

When was the last time you rode a bike? Really? That long? Well, you know what they say. You never forget how. So dust off that old bike and escape the gridlock. There’s no feeling quite like the wind in your hair as you zip around carefree on two wheels. Again, this will make you healthier. Some cities even offer bikes that you can rent for a small fee. These days some bikes are electric.

Buses

While not as good as your bike, taking a bus to your destination means that there is one less car on the roads polluting our air. The buses are already out there, so why not let one pick you up?

Trains

Much like taking the bus, boarding a train for a local destination helps to keep roads less clogged and plus you have the peace of mind to know that you are not contributing to the problem. Any vehicle that moves many people at once is helping to make our world that much cleaner. And besides, trains are getting greener every year. The modern electric train uses an electrified third rail or other methods to store up energy like fuel cells and batteries. Some travel at speeds of over 200 mph, but are still very safe.

Scooters are another great way to get from point A to point B They have zero emissions and you can travel at your own pace, just having fun.

Taxis

Like buses, these vehicles are already on the road, so why add your car to the mix? Take a cab. Maybe chat up the driver and get to know a stranger. Taxis are even better when you can share them with another, so when you get the chance, do this.

Electric Motorcycles

Believe it or not, electric motorcycles do exist and they are battery powered. These models tend to be very expensive, but it is worth it knowing how much you are sparing others from your emissions.

Carpooling

It always makes sense to share a ride with others so that there are fewer vehicles on the road. You can set up carpools with friends, family, and co-workers to help alleviate some of the congestion on the road. You can use the time together to catch up.

Walk

As any doctor will tell you, walking daily is great exercise, so if you choose to walk to your destination, you are not only doing the environment a favor, but yourself as well. You won’t get the same health benefits from sitting in your car.
