Fresh Approach For A Biofriendly Car

If all the hype on the world’s environmental issues are driving you crazy, then here’s something to lighten things up – automotive innovation on a whole new level.

XP Vehicles have come up with the Whisper car – environmentally friendly and designed with safety in mind; the Whisper is an inflatable car!  There’s not a whole lot of technical information available on the Whisper, but the treehugger article gives you a general idea.

The Whisper is battery powered and made mostly of inflatable material.   Because of the lightweight material, it claims a range of over 2,500 miles on a single charge.  XP Vehicles will enter the Whisper in the Automotive X-Prize, which is inviting teams worldwide into the competition.  The goal of the Automotive X-Prize: “To inspire a new generation of viable, super-efficient vehicles that help break our addiction to oil and stem the effects of climate change”.

The Whisper FAQ’s page sheds some interesting light on what you’ll be in for; including concerns nearly everyone will have about car-stabbing attacks and involuntary blow away emergencies.  It can be delivered to you unassembled in two cardboard boxes, which “should take two average adults, with a high school education, less than two hours to inflate and unpack the vehicle.”

How realistic this vision may be I’ve no idea, but I would be super-excited if it came to fruition – dodgem cars on a grand scale.  I won’t even have to buy it myself, my family will gladly fund the purchase… they have this crazy idea that I’m just naturally attracted to rubbing metal with other automobiles.  I have no idea what they are talking about.  Anyway, whether or not the concept is viable, the creativity and ingenuity is impressive

    Hi Cassie,

This is a cool post! I wonder how much a car like that weighs. You probably would have to carry band-aids for whenever it springs a leak.
