Minimizing emissions is extremely important. Yes, the planet will go through its cyclic patterns of changing climate. It also has natural sources of emissions.  It is difficult to ignore the environmental impact of humankind however.  We want is a clean planet with less environmental and air pollution, as well as the preservation of natural resources. Since this is the only planet we’ve got right now, it’s our responsibility to do what we can to lower our ecological footprint. Our children and our children’s children will be better off for it.

6 Simple Ways to Lower Emissions

To help you minimize your impact, we’ve come up with six simple ways to lower emissions:

  1. Choose an alternative source of transportation: Ride the bus or take the train. Carpool with co-workers or join a ride-share. Hope on your bike, walk or come up with some other way to get where you need to go. Even if you only do this once a week or once a day, it’s a start.   6. Opt for renewable energy: Minimize your dependence on fossil fuels.  Add solar panels to your home. Check out wind turbine options. Even hydro-electric could be a more eco-friendly way to power your home and office. Look for renewable energy that won’t deplete existing resources.

Common Sources of Personal Emissions

Personal emissions come from a variety of sources. One of the main sources is the combustion of fossil fuels. If you can reduce your dependence on fossil fuels, you’ll be far better off. Transportation is also a major contributor. Just think about it. With around 7.5 billion people currently on the planet, and numbers expected to rise to 9.6 billion by 2050, how we choose to get around makes a difference. Deforestation has an impact, as does one’s eating habits. The more we manufacture and build, the more emissions we generate. Getting into a reduce, reuse, recycle frame of mind would do wonders.

Almost every aspect of our lives could be overhauled, even if just a little, to lower our impact on the environment. Doing these six steps gives you a place to start. You can then move on from there.
